Conor Oberst recently told Rolling Stone magazine that it may soon be time to hang up the Bright Eyes persona. In the interview, he said, “It does feel like it needs to stop at some point. I’d like to clean it up, lock the door, say goodbye.”

So what’s to become of the Bright Eyes moniker? Oberst reportedly plans to record new material through this winter and next spring for one last release in 2010. His record company believes he simply wishes to divorce himself of the association eventually so he can move on with other things.

Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band will be going full-tilt through the end of July, with stops mostly in smaller theaters and clubs. Several of their dates will be in support of fellow indie ingenues, Wilco.

Bright Eyes fans can also catch the songwriting frontman with his new band at several of this summer’s music festivals, including “Summerfest” in Milwaukee and the “Telluride Bluegrass Festival” in Colorada in June; and the “Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival” in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park at the end of August.
